Tips for playing Trona
Read the rest of the available web pages, especially if you haven't played MUDs before.
Logon as guest and take a look around to get a feel for Trona before creating a character.
The novice on Trona is basically mosquito bait. Don't take on anything right away as you have a sure fire probability of getting killed. Start slow, the quickest way to advance is to do some simple quests that don't require combat.
To make any sort of meaningful advancement you will need to quest. This aspect is built right into the game. Without completing quests you will go no place very slowly.
Start mapping. The game consists of moving about from room to room with general directions such as west, south, up, and down. One popular mud client Zmud has an automatic mapping feature built right in.
Get a mud client. Some are free, others are not. Regular telnet clients just don't offer helpful features (like mapping and triggers) you will find in a mud client program.
Don't cheat! The immortals (wizards) do watch, and take it unkindly when people are caught cheating. They will especially acquire a very keen interest in those that are repeat offenders.
You are playing with actual live people. As in real life some people are more friendly and nice then others, this aspect is true in Trona. Ultimately it is up to you to choose your friends and enemies.
Don't forget to role play. You guild membership may require your character to do things that you personally do not agree with, try to remember your characters roll and to think and rationalize situations as they would.
